The Auckland waterfront is set to welcome visiting cruise ships this summer.

Cruises visiting Auckland play an important role in boosting our economy. Last season, cruise passengers spent $192.5 million in Auckland.

With an increasing number of large vessels moving in and out of our harbour, there will be an impact on ferry services from time to time.

What does it mean for you?

Cruise ship arrivals and departures can halt traffic for the entire Ferry Basin because it’s unsafe to operate ferries due to a ship’s thrust.

We’re working closely with Auckland Transport and the Harbourmaster to let you know when to expect disruptions.

If you are signed up to our travel alerts, we will let you know in advance of potential impact to services due to:

  • A cruise ship scheduled to arrive or depart at key commuter times (sometimes arriving later than anticipated)
  • The large Ovation of the Seas ship anchored in the harbour, with tender boats operating
  • A cruise ship berthed at Queens Wharf and/or Princes Wharf that constricts room for ferries to operate in the Ferry Basin

Please download the MyFerry app and set your travel alert preferences to receive push notifications about your frequent routes.

If you’d like to plan further in advance, we encourage you to keep an eye on the Ports of Auckland Cruise Schedule to understand when cruise movements may impact your travel.  Please understand that some cruise ship disruptions are unplanned.
